Since its inception in 2021, The Twizza Netball Club Championships (or more affectionately known as the TNCC), has given netball players a platform to develop their skills in a competitive environment. It also aims to help players advance and get identified for bigger teams and more senior competitions.
The tournament also offers coaches, umpires, and administrators the opportunity to showcase their abilities on a more competitive stage.
TNCC has three stages, beginning at the district level. The winning men’s and women’s clubs from the District Championships then advance to the Provincial Championships. From there, the winners from the Provincial Championships advance to the final stage – National Champions. Here, the winning women’s and men’s teams get to battle it out for the Twizza Netball Club Championships title.
2021 saw Gauteng clubs dominating with both the ladies (Tuks) and men (Brothers) teams bagging themselves the championship titles with the gold wear to show. In 2022, De Tyger (ladies) from the Western Cape and Ocean Predators (men) from KZN came out victorious. This year (2023), the stakes were just as high as the previous years. Out of all 17 teams from all across Mzansi Wethu that competed in the Nationals, the Western Cape claimed this year’s gold. Both their women’s (Brave Ladies) and men’s (Hurricanes) teams came out on top, with the Mogodi Hot Pirates from Limpopo taking third place.
The Twizza Netball Club Championships has been a stepping stone for the advancement of netball in South Africa. Many of the league’s participants have gone onto do big things.
